Engineering and design for development of marginal oil fields
Abstract
Marginal oil fields are of small scale, with low recoverable reserves and difficult conditions for development. In case of field development under current economic, financial and technical conditions, investors only reach the break-even threshold. However, marginal oil fields/discoveries may be economically viable if some economic and financial conditions are altered, or modern and better technologies are applied to optimise the development costs.
In order to develop marginal oil fields, comprehensive consideration will be necessary, from financial incentives to technical solutions and technologies applied for field development. The article introduces the engineering and design solutions for development of small and marginal oil fields in Vietsovpetro Joint Venture.
