Determining the geological age of Sequence G, Block 15-1/05 in Cuu Long basin and the relationship between palynological assemblages and sedimentary depositional cycles
Abstract
Cyclolog software is a powerful tool to study sedimentary depositional cycles in oil and gas basins nowadays. The basis of this method is to analyse the gamma-ray log to predict the deposition trends of clastic sediments along wellbores. Although many stratigraphic studies have been carried out for oil and gas exploration in the Cuu Long basin, there are still different opinions concerning the stratigraphic boundaries and the geological age of Sequence G in Block 15-1/05. This paper presents the scientifi c basis to determine the geological age of Sequence G as well as the correlation between the palynological assemblages and sedimentary cycles using CycloLog.
