New findings from pre-Cenozoic basement rock in Song Hong basin and their relation to petroleum formation
Abstract
The recent new findings about the lithological characteristics of pre-Cenozoic basement rock in Song Hong basin, particularly the presence of granite aplite and hyalobasalt in some wells belonging to Blocks 101-100/04 and 106/10, show that the geological formation of Song Hong basin is largely similar to those of Cuu Long and Nam Con Son basins. The paper presents the characteristics of the pre-Cenozoic basement rock in Song Hong basin based on the new findings and compares the petrographical characteristics of this basement rock with those in Cuu Long and Nam Con Son basins. The evidences reveal the relation of petroleum system formation between basins which provides a new general view for the next exploration phases.
