Abstract

The characteristics of the reservoir fluid play a great influence on the design and optimisation of production/injection strategies and surface facility for efficient reservoir management. Inaccurate characterisation of the fluids will lead to significant risks and uncertainties in the assessment of hydrocarbon in place and the recovery prediction, and thus affect the value of the asset. The characterisation of the pressure/volume/temperature (PVT) begins with collecting sufficient volumes of representative fluid samples followed by measuring the PVT data in relevant laboratory. The paper presents the fluid characterisation method for a wide spectrum of fluid types ranging from heavy oils, black oils, light oils to highly volatile oils, dry gas, wet gas and lean gas condensates undergoing a wide range of mechanisms from natural depletion to tertiary recovery for enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
