Abstract

Crude oil produced on satellite platforms (BK/RC) at Bach Ho and Rong fields has very low surface temperature (35 - 45oC), high paraffin content, high viscosity and high pour point temperature. To transport this produced oil by submarine pipelines from the satellite platforms to the fixed platform or central processing platform (CPP), crude oil needs to be treated with a chemical that reduces the pour point temperature. The results of research on the rheological properties of crude oil at Bach Ho and Rong fields show that for effective treatment of high paraffin oil, crude oil must have a temperature of not less than 65oC (T ≥ 65oC) (5-10oC higher than paraffin crystallisation temperature).

The paper presents a geothermal application method in crude oil treatment for transportation of high paraffin oil, and determines the depth, where the temperature is higher than 65oC, for installation of the chemical injection valve for paraffin treatment with the highest effectiveness.
