Oil spill response co-operation in ASEAN
Abstract
Oil spill incident usually causes a great negative effect to the marine environment and biodiversity not only in the marine area of one country but also the other countries. So, to effectively respond to oil spills at sea, the close co-operation among countries at regional level to make the most of the assistance and support of other countries and international organisations plays an important role. This paper aims at providing an overview of how ASEAN addresses the oil spill problem; their achievements and limitations in oil spill preparedness and response; and based on these, some solutions are recommended.
