Methods to detect corrosion under insulation
Abstract
Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is difficult to monitor and control. It is usually only detected when the insulation layer is removed for surveying or when an incident occurs. The study of corrosive detection under the insulation layer therefore plays a very important role in accurately determining the location of high risk of corrosion under insulation, which can help prevent breakdowns and minimise maintenance costs, contributing to the stable, effective and safe operation of the plant. The paper introduces methods for detecting corrosion under insulation such as Radiography, Guided Wave Ultrasonic, Pulsed Eddy Current, Thermography, Neutron Backscatter and Visual Inspection.
