ESP application in Su Tu Vang fractured basement reservoir
Abstract
Gas lift has been a standard method of production after the natural flow period. However, this method depends on the compressor capacity, the availability of gas as well as the efficiency of lift gas at high water cut and high deviation wells. Therefore, an alternative technique must be considered to meet technical requirements and economic considerations. For this reason, attention has been directed to testing the use of electrical submersible pump (ESP) in Su Tu Vang fractured basement reservoir (Cuu Long basin). The pilot test was aimed to investigate the application of ESP and the potential of oil production by ESP compared to gas lift in high pressure and high temperature conditions. Results from the test indicated that ESP provided a better flexibility in reservoir management, produced more oil than the gas lift method, and lowered the water cut not only in the tested well itself but also in adjacent wells. In addition, ESP helped reduce the back pressure in the whole system, thus adding more oil to the total field production and saving certain amount of gas for other purposes.
