Nanotechnology applications in oil and gas industry and potential research directions in Vietnam
Abstract
Nanotechnology and nanomaterials have been effectively applied in many areas, including the oil and gas industry. Nanotechnology can be used to improve oil and gas drilling and production processes by providing lighter, stronger and more corrosion-resistant materials, developing new intelligent fluids for enhanced oil recovery (EOR), especially in high temperature and high pressure conditions, and allowing easy separation of metallic impurities. In this paper, the authors focused on an overview of current applications of nanotechnology in petroleum exploration, production and processing in the world, as well as an evaluation of research possibilities and short-term and long-term applicable targets in order to efficiently exploit the high potential of nanotechnology and nanomaterials in Vietnam’s oil and gas industry.
