Geological setting and petroleum system in Hoang Sa archipelago area
Abstract
Hoang Sa archipelago is located off the north-east coast of Vietnam with the water depth ranging from 1,000 to 3,000m. There are some Tertiary basins in this area and a number of oil and gas fi elds have been found in Song Hong, Nam Con Son and Phu Khanh basins. However, only a few researches have been conducted and still no exploration well exists in the area. This paper presents an updated overview of the geological setting, geological development history and hydrocarbon potential of Hoang Sa archipelago area based on available data using the play concept.
